Trivia you forget in a second
The problem
A football fan
Most football trivia is multiple choice. Pinalty asks you to place a penalty spot on the world map, then scores you by distance from the real stadium.
How it works
Step 1: Same five
Every player gets the same five questions each day. One play per puzzle, one guess per question.
Step 2: Pin it
Place your guess on a MapLibre world map. The closer you are to the real stadium, the more of the 200 points per question you keep.
Step 3: Compare
A round takes 60 to 90 seconds on a phone. Share the score and see who knows the game better.
Behind the ink
How it's built, and how the AI is kept honest.
AI on a short leash
Code picks five verified, sourced facts. GPT-5-mini only writes the question wording, with strict JSON-schema output and provider storage turned off.
Automated checks
Output is rejected if it leaks the answer, uses numbers that aren't in the source, repeats earlier wording, or is malformed. Publishing is all-or-nothing in one database function, with a scheduled backup retry.
Answers stay on the server
Scoring runs in Postgres functions, direct writes are blocked by Row-Level Security, and secrets never reach the browser.
